Elaine Long Bailey
Biography
Elaine Long Bailey retired in Fall, 2020 as a Senior Agent with University of Maryland Extension. In her most recent role, she served as the 4-H Youth Development Educator for Calvert County. An Animal Scientist by training, she taught on the University of Maryland College Park Campus for more than 20 years before moving into Extension work. Among classes she developed and taught are ANSC 101 Principles of Animal Science, INAG 232 Equine Business Management, INAG 234 Equine Industry Applications, INAG 201 Personnel Management, ANSC 220 Livestock Management, INAG 110 Oral Communications and many other courses. Bailey served as a member of eXtension’s HorseQuest and EDEN Communities of Practice, and was an active contributor to the Extension Horses, Inc. group. She earned a B.S. Degree in Animal Science from Clemson University, and an M.S. Degree in Agricultural and Extension Education from Iowa State University. From teaching formal courses to university students to training volunteers, Bailey has provided educational opportunities to people from all walks of life. She has done national presentations on a variety of topics ranging from STEM for 4-H youth to preparing livestock and horse owners for natural disasters.
