Lake Ontario communities have experienced record-high flooding, lasting months at a time, two of the last three years. Mary Austerman, Great Lakes Coastal Community Development Specialist at New York Sea Grant, will discuss collaborative efforts that integrated physical and social science to inform the development of tools and resources that can enhance the resilience of Lake Ontario communities. Austerman will also describe how this work fed into a participatory planning process for a Lake Ontario community that, like many others, is vulnerable to repeated flooding events, how this process is being transferred to other communities in the region, and lessons learned.
