Committees

Family and Consumer Sciences

The Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Committee supports EDEN’s mission by identifying and developing disaster education resources that help families, individuals, and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. The committee focuses on practical, research-based information that strengthens household and community resilience.

Committee focus areas include:

Identifying needs and creating disaster education resources for families and consumers

Producing and evaluating research-based tools such as fact sheets and courses for Extension educators

Sharing best practices and professional development related to preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery

Promoting education on topics like family communication, emergency kits, food safety, evacuation planning, and post-disaster risk reduction

Supporting collaboration among FCS professionals to extend the reach of disaster education across Extension programs nationwide
