Biography
Harmony Fierke-Gmazel, AICP is an Educator with Michigan State University Extension’s Community, Food and Environment Institute. She focuses on programs and research related to community development, resiliency and design for local governments in southern and mid- Michigan. She also facilitates a statewide network of planning professionals from the twelve recognized tribes in Michigan, most recently coordinating a presentation focused on indigenous values represented in planning and design. Throughout her career, Ms. Gmazel has administered and/or participated in the development of a multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan, various master plans, sub-area plans, park and recreation plans, conservation plans and complete street ordinances. She has facilitated multiple strategic plans for organizations, is an instructor for the National Charrette Institute at MSU and teaches programs related to Facilitative Leadership skills. Ms. Gmazel is chair of the Michigan Association of Planning’s Social Equity Committee and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. She is currently working with a team at MSUE to develop a Hazard Mitigation Planning Facilitation Guidebook for Extension Professionals to be complete in the winter of 2023-4.
