Biography

Mary Von Seggern is the Rural Prosperity Nebraska Assistant Extension Educator in Blair, working with rural communities in Burt, Cuming, Dodge, Saunders, Thurston, and Washington Counties, as well as Douglas and Sarpy Counties. Mary is excited about the opportunity to support Extension efforts, including the work of Nebraska EDEN, in the state she calls home. Before stepping into this role, Mary’s work centered on connecting community-driven initiatives to broader health outcomes, where she facilitated local wellness improvement projects and collaborated with diverse communities across Nebraska.

Mary is a current doctoral candidate in the Department of Health Promotion at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Public Health, whose research focuses on the study of rural community-driven system coordination through local asset-based trial and error learning. She earned her Master of Science in Health and Kinesiology from the University of Nebraska Omaha and her bachelor’s degree in Social Policy and Advocacy Studies from Midland Lutheran College. Mary is also a proud AmeriCorps alum, serving one term in Oakland, CA, and another term in Seattle, WA.

Outside of work, Mary enjoys volunteering, spending time with family, and being active.
