Rubayet Bin Mostafiz is an Assistant Professor of Research at the LSU AgCenter’s LaHouse Research and Education Center, specializing in disaster education and risk assessment for coastal and rural communities. His expertise spans natural hazard risk and mitigation, disaster resilience, and economic risk assessment for communities facing natural hazards. With a Ph.D. in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences and a minor in Geography from Louisiana State University, his research integrates natural, social, and built environment factors to enhance community resilience and support disaster-resilient, affordable housing solutions.

Rubayet’s contributions to disaster education include developing and disseminating accessible hazard communication tools and educational resources for diverse audiences. He has led outreach and engagement initiatives that equip residents, homeowners, and policymakers with practical knowledge on disaster preparedness and resilience, especially in the Gulf Coast region. His recent projects, funded by agencies such as the USDA, FEMA, and GOHSEP, focus on natural hazard mitigation and sustainable, resilient building practices tailored to high-risk coastal areas.

An active member of professional organizations like the American Association of Geographers and the American Geophysical Union, Rubayet has published extensively on flood risk assessment, climate change impacts, and coastal hazard resilience.
