EDEN Executive Committee members are as prone to creating acronyms as any other group in Extension. You may have heard of the first, but probably not the second acronym listed in this post’s title.

EDEN established Program Area Work Groups to provide a framework for organizing disaster education and resources  around the program areas in which  Extension works. You are encouraged to join the PAWG that best fits your work. For more information and to join the PAWG, please contact:

4-H and Youth Development PAWG is a small  group looking for more members interested in helping young people become disaster-ready. Lynette Black

Family and Consumer Science PAWG focus has been on reviewing current resources and developing a Family Preparedness training program. That program is now available. Interested in helping the group establish new goals? Contact  Becky Koch

Community Development PAWG serves as the link between EDEN and eXtension CED program area by building the institutional knowledge of best practices and programs with all hazards planning and disaster education.  Deborah Tootle

The Agrosecurity PAWG seeks ways to encourage development and use of teaching and outreach materials for county and state faculty and staff. The group networks with federal and state agencies, industry and other organizations.   Mike Yoder

NEIL — National EDEN Issue Leadership — is a model we’ve developed that reflects the working format of recent EDEN teams, which integrate all program areas when addressing a subject. NEIL leaders and team members will provide national guidance on a given issue, such as floods, through the full range of EDEN communication tools.

We will be sponsoring a Webinar in May to discuss the NEIL concept. Details to come!
