Preparing for Wildfires with Firescaping

October 21st, 2020

Preparing for Wildfires with Firescaping is a wildfire-preparedness project that was developed in response to the 2016 Appalachian wildfires. The USDA-NIFA funded project was designed to train southeastern U.S. Master Gardeners and Extension educators on fire-resistant landscaping. The project includes (1) an online Extension Agent training ( and (2) a toolbox of materials to support delivery of the in-person, day long Master Gardener firescaping training (once Agents complete the above online training they gain access to the toolbox). Project managers are also currently developing an online, asynchronous version of the Master Gardener training that will be complete by Spring 2021.
