EHD (Epizootic hemorrhagic disease is killing deer and several states have confirmed the infecting cattle. Most infections in cattle are subclinical and reproductive disorders have been reported such abortions and fetal reabsorptions. Though not a new disease for cattle thus not a concern, the presence of numbers of dead deer in or near cattle watering areas is a concern with respect to water quality. There is heightened concern in drought impacted states where availability and/or quality are already compromised. It is important farmers and ranchers check watering areas for dead deer and test water if there are concerns with regard to quality.
