Committee
Family and Consumer Sciences
MISSION
The Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Committee is a network of Extension educators focused on increasing our ability to provide families, individuals, and communities with education and informational resources needed to reduce the impact of disasters. Some examples of the content we cover include family communication and preparations for common disaster situations by creating emergency kits, preparing one’s home, organizing important household records, completing a household inventory, and evacuation plans, food access and safety, preparing for power outages, reducing the risk of mold following storm damage, and much more. We work together to provide professional development related to disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery as well as share best practices, identify gaps and opportunities to work collaboratively
When disaster strikes and you need to locate information to share locally, the EDEN Resource Dashboard is the place to quickly find Extension disaster education publications, videos, and other resources created by your Extension colleagues across the country. You can share these materials or use them in developing new materials relevant to the needs of the communities you serve. Committee members have uploaded over 30 projects to Resources since 2020 as well as 5 presentations at EDEN Conferences.
